About the position

As a special educator, you will work together with the principal, vice principal, student health team, and other staff to promote a good pedagogical learning environment with the goal that all students feel good and develop based on their conditions and reach as far as possible. The work as a special educator is multifaceted and involves various forms of promoting, preventive, and remedial special educational interventions, focusing on guiding staff to create an accessible learning environment for all students. You will work operationally close to both students and staff, and your duties will include supervision and professional development of teachers and student assistants. You will lead the work during transitions to and from our unit, conduct pedagogical follow-ups and investigations, and have overall responsibility for various interventions around the students. You are also an important part of the unit's systematic quality work.

At Almby School, there are four units, where students in adapted primary school (AGr) are in two different units. The position primarily focuses on the unit for students studying subject areas, 1-9 AGr, consisting of three classes, as well as an after-school program. The other part is directed towards our subject students, grades 4-9, who belong to the unit for grades 7-9, consisting of one class divided into three groups. In the role of special educator, you will be part of the management group for subject area students but will have an important role in linking the two orientations within AGr based on needs.

You will work closely with the vice principal who is responsible for the unit for our subject area students but is expected to independently lead various processes. You will provide expertise in school development issues, collaborate with educators and the principal in finding successful working methods that benefit students' learning.

Examples of tasks:

  • drive student health work in the unit through special educational interventions and follow-ups
  • conduct pedagogical follow-ups and investigations
  • be part of the management group and work with the systematic quality work in the unit
  • lead/participate in various meetings with guardians and other internal and external contacts
  • collaborate with other staff within student health at Almby School to promote a holistic view and a red thread in the work at the Intrapreneurship Almby School
  • collaborate in special educator networks for AGr with targeted assignments and experience exchange

Intrapreneurship Almby School is a school for all students, regardless of background, conditions, and needs. In this role, you will belong to one of four units at Almby School. Collaboration also exists with the adapted primary school's subject groups, grades 4-9, which are part of the 7-9 unit, as well as the after-school activities for F-3 and 4-6. Other units at the school are F-3, 4-6, and 7-9, each led by a vice principal. The school is ultimately led by a principal for all units. The school has a large student health team with several special educators, special teachers, school nurses, and counselors, led by two team leaders.

Qualifications

In the role of special educator, you will work with several internal and external parties, so we are looking for someone who listens, communicates, and contributes to a good collaborative culture. You are curious, creative, and enjoy thinking about accessible learning environments in all learning situations. Furthermore, you work independently and have the ability to be flexible according to what the situation requires. We are looking for someone with a genuine interest in children's development and learning and with significant competence to make education accessible for students with intellectual disabilities and other diagnoses common in adapted primary school. Additionally, you have good digital skills to document in our operational systems and good knowledge of Swedish in both spoken and written form.

We place great emphasis on personal suitability.

Requirements:

  • special educator degree 90 credits
  • experience working with students with intellectual disabilities

Meritorious:

  • extensive experience working as a special educator
  • training in guiding interaction, ICDP
  • extensive experience working within adapted primary school
  • knowledge in logopedics and phoniatrics
  • extensive knowledge in AAC and developing accessible learning environments

Teacher certification with specified qualifications must be attached to the application, alternatively, a qualification-granting diploma that entitles to certification.
